Why do moms after childbirth need to use maternity pads?

Congratulations, new moms! After the beautiful journey of childbirth, it’s important to take care of yourself and ensure a smooth recovery. One essential item that should be on every new mom’s list is maternity pads.

Why do you need to use maternity pads after childbirth? Well, let’s talk about lochia. Lochia is the vaginal discharge that occurs after giving birth. It consists of blood, tissue, and mucus from the lining of the uterus. This discharge can last for several weeks and is a natural part of the postpartum healing process.

Maternity pads are specifically designed to handle the heavy flow associated with lochia. They provide maximum absorbency and comfort during this time when your body is going through significant changes.

Using maternity pads not only helps you stay clean and dry but also prevents any potential infections or discomfort that may arise from using regular sanitary pads or tampons.

So, dear moms, make sure to stock up on maternity pads before your little bundle of joy arrives. Take care of yourself during this precious postpartum period – you deserve it!

What is the maternity pads?

Maternity pads, also known as postpartum pads or maternity sanitary pads, are specifically designed for women to use after childbirth. These pads are larger, thicker, and more absorbent than regular sanitary pads to provide comfort and protection during the postpartum period.

Maternity pads are typically made from soft and breathable materials to promote healing and prevent irritation in sensitive areas after childbirth. They often have a contoured shape to fit the body comfortably and provide maximum coverage. Some maternity pads also come with adhesive strips to secure them in place within regular underwear or specially designed postpartum underwear.

The primary purpose of maternity pads is to manage postpartum bleeding, which can be heavy in the first few weeks after giving birth. The pads are designed to absorb and contain the lochia, which is a mixture of blood, mucus, and uterine tissue that is discharged from the vagina after childbirth.

It’s important to note that maternity pads should not be confused with regular menstrual pads. Regular pads may not provide sufficient absorbency and coverage needed during the postpartum period. It is advisable to use maternity pads specifically designed for this purpose to ensure comfort and hygiene.

Additionally, it’s recommended to change maternity pads frequently, especially during the initial days when postpartum bleeding is heaviest. This helps maintain cleanliness, prevent infection, and promote healing. It’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for specific recommendations on postpartum care, including the use of maternity pads.

The difference between maternal pads and ordinary sanitary napkins:

1)One month after childbirth, the amount of lochia is so large that ordinary sanitary napkins cannot absorb it. The absorption capacity of maternal sanitary napkins is many times larger than that of ordinary sanitary napkins.

2)The design of maternal sanitary napkins is not easy to rub the postpartum wound, which is conducive to the recovery of the parturient

3)Ordinary sanitary napkins have not been disinfected with ethylene oxide, which can easily infect postpartum wounds.
